The 25km Gwydir Mawr Trail is a proper mountain bike trail in every sense of the term. Big climbs, big descents, brilliant singletrack and truly awesome scenery make this a trail to remember. Most, but not all, of the climbs are on forest roads and tracks giving you time to take in the views of the mountains of Snowdonia, and all of the descents are on the sweetest singletrack. The singletack varies from very tight, technical and rocky to wonderfully open and flowing, from dark forest to exposed ridgelines.

It incorporates the shorter Gwydir Bach trail, which is a 8.7km version taking between 45 to 90 minutes to complete.

The Gwydir mountain bike trails are managed and maintained by Natural Resources Wales. Follow MTB Ranger on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram for trail updates and drop our rangers a message if you come across any issues on the trail.

Sorry Jamie. No plans for it. Gwydir Mawr & Bach trails will most likely always be xc trails. Unless a local group of riders were prepared to form a constituted group and come up with an acceptable proposal for building and managing their own trail.

You can always message me if you want to chat about it. andy.braund@cyfoethnaturiolcymru.gov.uk

Very well sign posted but a map is always advisable if you don’t know the area

Yep, they are all open now. Just remember to maintain social distancing especially at the trailhead car park.

Hi, is Gwydir Bach suitable for beginners? Considering taking my son tomorrow, we’ve never done a trail before but he’s keen to try. If this isn’t suitable is there another you would recommend. Thanks Jo
