Parc Sgiliau is an exciting addition to the already stunning array of mountain bike features at Bwlch Nant Yr Arian. Tucked away under the road in a quiet little corner, are three demanding skills tracks. Commissioned by Natural Resources Wales, designed and built by Trailcraft for riders at BNYA. The team at Trailcraft are wizards, they have packed rollers, step ups, berms, tabletops, hips, bowls into three tracks each exercising and consolidating existing skill, and yet encouraging people to realize their potential and push their boundaries, all at their own pace. The skills area was completed over the winter months 20016-17 and officially opened March 4 by NRW Board Member and Deputy Chair, Dr Madeleine Havard. who handed over the tape cutting duties to non other that the fantastic 5 times Downhill World Champion, Rachel Atherton.
Rachel brought along a huge crowd of supporters and spent a lot of time talking with and encouraging young and old, experienced and newbies to try the tracks and begin their individual learning journey. It is great to see so many people riding their bikes or watching as others literally fly around the tracks. Mid Wales has become a serious stop off and venue for people wishing to improve their dirt jump and pump track skills. This in turn equips people to more safely enjoy their cycling out on the existing mountain bike trails.
All three tracks are rollable, so don’t be put off. Come and experience the buzz, use the skills park as a warm up before your ride. Use the area to practice your manuals, pump skills, grabbing some air, or free styling your way around.
However you use it, make a point of adding it to your bucket list. Call in to Parc Sgiliau Bwlch Nant Yr Arian.
You will not be disappointed.
Hello – I’m thinking about visiting Arian skills park in August. Could you advise a near by campsite please.
Many thanks.
Hello Gail,
the trails at Bwlch Nant Yr Arian are all open including the Skills Park. The visitor Centre is closed at present but we hope to open as soon as we can, watch our Facebook page, or instagram for the news. There are campsites at Devils Bridge or Aberystwyth so it is best if you use your search bar to find one that suits you. Try “Campsites near Aberystwyth” Or campsites near Ponterwyd and see what comes up. I hope that helps, all the best, and stay safe
