About
The Park is many things to many people. From walking to cycling, orienteering, coarse fishing, watching the deer, enjoying the peace – the park provides a wonderful environment for all to enjoy.
With a total distance of 22k, the Margam Deer Mountain Bike Trail offers up to a half day’s riding, with sections that range from accessible, family-friendly beginner track to the tight turns and fast jumps that will challenge the expert mountain biker.
Why not make a day of it by combining your mountain bike adventure with more of Margam Park’s activities. There are water sports such as kayaking or paddle boarding, as well as the Go Ape high ropes that include zip wires and a massive swing along with your treetop rope walks, and a Grade I listed castle to explore. There’s also a café for refreshments.
Margam Deer Mountain Bike Trail
The trail at Margam was originally put in to host an event and was graded as a 5km black event trail loop, for years the trail had been left and was not open to the public. The physical activity sport service Neath Port Talbot organised a project to re-establish the trail to open it for public use. Margam mountain bike club and its volunteers were able to source grant funding and agreed to helping out with the maintenance of the trail. The trail was altered in order to make a red loop with black options still there to challenge your expert rider, the family trail was signed as a green family loop and a blue option added for those ready to make the jump to the next level of riding.
We would like to thank the partners involved in making this project happen the Physical Activity Sport Service for leading this project and its partners Margam Park Adventure, Margam Mountain Bike Club, Back on track trail design, Princes Trust and the probation service. All have played a part in opening this trail for public use.
What you can expect on each trail. Green is a Family trail, Blue Intermediates, Red Advanced, Black Experts only.
